Learn to Play Piano: How Piano Lessons Can Increase your Child's IQ

By Gretchen Mollse

Like all parents, mine had dreams of having a prodigy in the family. My brothers and I had to learn to play piano, chess and other 'smart' activities to stimulate our minds. Turns out my father was right.

Now that I have kids of my own, I'm thinking of starting them with some piano lessons too. Some experts say learning how to play the piano can boost a child's brainpower. Here are some benefits your child will get from every piano lesson:

It Develops Creativity

Ever notice why a lot of educational programs have a lot of singing? Music helps children retain information a lot better. When children learn to play piano, it helps improve their visual learning skills so that they can process ideas better.

How to Be More Confident

Taking piano lessons can boost a kid's self-esteem! Though recitals are scary, kids appreciate it when parents cheer them from the audience. Their confidence goes through the roof when they see that you're proud of their accomplishments, no matter how small.

Focus

For parents, getting kids to concentrate better is a dilemma. Making them learn how to play piano will boost their concentration through constant practice. Just remember to keep sessions short and enjoyable so that they don't lose their enthusiasm for the game.

Improves Coordination

Did you know that piano playing involves a lot of eye-hand (and foot) coordination? Piano pieces have to be played with varying degrees of loudness and softness which require a lot of energy. It's almost like competing in an athletic sport!

Lets the Family Bond Better

Most of all, its fun. Having a piano in the house makes for enjoyable family times! Why not try taking lessons yourself to go along with your child? It beats parking in front of the TV all day long.

Looking back, I did have some fun childhood memories with my piano lessons. Though I didn't become a piano prodigy - I learned some important things along the way. If you want your kid to learn to have some self-discipline and creativity, a piano lesson is all that it takes. As my father used to say 'You'll never know unless you try. - 30455

Learn And Master The Piano With Ease

By John Windil

When it comes to your idea about playing piano, the chances are that you assume it to be one of the most difficult things in life. But then, how do all those pianists out there perform with such elegance and glamour? Lets face it. What we hold in our heart is a pseudo-fear. Piano playing is not as horrible as it is made to be seen. In fact, it is even easier than playing a guitar or any other string instrument due to the simple fact that, the piano accommodates enough space for your fingers to do wonders.

The rule of the thumb when it comes to playing piano is to practice. That is why you see so many kids playing the piano well than many adults do. If your ears grab the sounds that are produced by a piano, and if your fingers get enough practice to walk confidently through the keyboard, then you will have no trouble with playing piano.

The first thing to know before playing piano would be to learn how to read the music staff. A music staff consists of those famous five lines and four spaces between which the notes are written and placed on a sheet.

Additionally, you will learn the two different clefs that help you determine on which hand you should be playing. Treble clef will show the notes that pertain to the right hand while the bass cleft will point out to notes that should be played by the left hand. Other additional instructions too will be noted on a music manuscript such as pedaling and variation of tone. However, these are advanced techniques that you should not worry about, just as yet.

Learning to read notations, also known as sight reading is a crucial skill you need to develop if you are thinking of pursuing piano music. You may have seen people who could play perfectly without knowing anything about notations. That is an inborn skill. Playing by the ear is a fabulous gift however; learning to sight read is a greater skill to develop as it will surely assist your music abilities on the long run.

On your first attempt to learn piano, you will need to learn how to locate the middle C as it is the most important note of all on a music script. Once you know the middle C it is easy for you to recognize rest of the keys.

You may wonder why many tutorials try teaching the white keys first. The reason is that the black keys denote sharps and flats, which is one step further in your learning process. However, the concept of sharps and flats is not difficult to understand but first, you will need to be thorough with the white keys.

First of all, you need to read up about piano playing. Get to know as much information as possible so you know what to expect in time to come. Second get yourself a good tutor; and it does not matter if your tutor is human or a computer. Happy playing. - 30455

Learn to Play Piano: How Piano Lessons Can Increase your Child's IQ

By Gretchen Mollse

My father had it all worked out. He would put us through every lesson imaginable and maybe one of us would come out a genius. (Thank God our piano teacher had the patience of a saint.) Many years later, I realized my (well-meaning) father was right.

According to some experts, piano lessons can help make kids smarter. Now that I have children of my own, I'm thinking of making them learn to play piano too. I'm not as delusional as my father was, but I would certainly love to have my kids learn something fun, something that can make them develop skills they can adapt later in life. A piano lesson is a great way to improve:

How to Be More Creative

Children actually learn better through music, and learning to play piano can improve your child's visual learning skills. Visual learning stimulates creativity because it deals with how the brain visualizes ideas from the things we see around us.

How to Be More Confident

If they're too shy, kids can start performing for family and friends and go on from there. Seeing an audience appreciating all their hard work will make them want to practice harder to get better. When they learn to play piano at recitals, you can see how much they want to make their parents proud.

Focus

Children can learn how to focus if they're enjoying themselves. Just learning a familiar song can make them want to practice over and over until they get it right. (Just don't make them overdo it or they might start resenting lessons as much as eating broccoli.)

Coordination

Kids will have better coordination when they learn how to play piano. Playing with feeling require different techniques for touching keys while using foot pedals to resonate pieces correctly. Going through a passionate piano lesson is like having them participate in an athletic sport!

Lets the Family Bond Better

Having a piano in the house makes for fun family time! Siblings can compare notes while parents can join in the fun of practice too. Your kids will be proud to show off their talents at Christmas and other special occasions.

While I didn't go on to play at Carnegie Hall, piano lessons were a memorable part of my childhood. If you want to give your child some happy memories and skills that can last a lifetime - piano lessons are the way to go. Just don't forget to buy some earplugs and get ready for some 'creative' noise. - 30455
